Qassim University, a premier institution in Saudi Arabia, is dedicated to academic excellence and innovation. To enhance its infrastructure, Qassim University engaged Sultanah Allied Industries Co., a leader in high-quality designs, who subcontracted STIRIXIS Executive for expertise in systemic design and WOOD-SKIN for the Main Auditorium ceiling.
The Main Auditorium
The main Auditorium, a 3700 m² space with 1300 seats, required optimal acoustics and visual accessibility, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility with advanced audiovisual systems. This is an expansive space designed to provide a memorable experience for every attendee. The ceiling is a standout feature, designed with a parametric pattern that mimics a starry night sky. This not only adds a stunning visual element but also improves the acoustics of the space. The materials used in the auditorium change subtly from the front to the back, enhancing the sound quality by strategically balancing sound reflection and absorption. This WOOD-SKIN ceiling is a stunning example of how our technology enables the creation of large-scale, complex 3D surfaces with both aesthetic and functional benefits.
DESIGN AND AESTHETIC
TECHNICAL AND FUNCTIONAL BENEFITS
Acoustic Performance:
The WOOD-SKIN ceiling not only enhances the auditorium’s aesthetics but also plays a crucial role in acoustic optimization. The 3D faceted geometry helps diffuse sound, reducing unwanted echoes and ensuring even sound distribution across the space. Additionally, the WOOD-SKIN surface has been perforated to achieve the required acoustic absorption range, effectively managing reverberation and improving speech intelligibility. This combination of diffusion and absorption makes it an ideal solution for auditoriums, theaters, and other spaces where high-quality acoustics are essential.
Lightweight & Efficient Installation:
Despite its complex form, the WOOD-SKIN system is lightweight and ships flat, making logistics and installation easier compared to traditional 3D structures.
